Roger Ebert lamented, “From what dark night of the soul emerged the wretched idea for ‘The Nutcracker in 3D’?” Dana Stevens of Slate.com wrote that the movie “is something gnarled and stunted and wrong, something that should never have been allowed to see the light of day.”
The movie starts out as a gentle tale of a lonely young girl (Elle Fanning) in 1920s Vienna who receives a magical nutcracker for Christmas from her uncle Albert Einstein (Nathan Lane). Yes, that Albert Einstein. Exactly why the famed Jewish physicist was celebrating Christmas is not discussed in the film. The doll, of course, comes alive, reveals himself to be a prince under a curse, and leads her Wonderland-like into his world.
And here’s where the movie makes a left turn from a Hallmark Christmas special into a bizarro version of the Third Reich. The prince’s land is occupied by rat-faced Nazis. Their leader, the Rat King (John Turturro in an Andy Warhol wig), espouses the complete purification (“Ratification”) of the population while throwing piles of children’s toys into a crematorium. There’s also singing and dancing. A little kung fu. An electrocuted shark and at least one beheading. And it’s in 3D!
Amazing promo! I bet you guys just won over some haters as well. I was just wondering, and I don't know if you're allowed to say as much, but will the longer version of the promo be released soon? Or are they going to release it in parts?
And if you can't answer that, that's all right. Nice work anyway!
Really happy you like it. Thanks so much. Yeah, I hope folks give it a chance. The original is so amazing so I understand people being hesitant. Fingers crossed I guess :)
The long version which is around 3 mins (can’t remember how long actually) is supposed to go online a month before the premiere. So sometime around mid-December (?) As soon as it launches though - I’ll post it on my site. Thanks again.
Amber Portwood’s violent behavior against baby daddy Gary Shirley is finally baring consequences. Amber, 20, was officially charged with two felonies count and one misdemeanor for domestic violence and battery. Under Indiana law, an incident of domestic abuse is considered a felony if a child is present for the abuse — which baby Leah was in both cases. Interestingly, one of the two felonies is based on footage never aired by MTV.
Can I just tell you how amazing & talented Edward Gibbon is? Don’t know Edward yet? Well, he’s the guy to follow from now on. The styles he creates on Skins are unique and beautiful and tragic. I’m so happy he’s on Skins US. He worked with us on our Image Campaign for the show along with Richard Krogh (who is so funny and fantastic too) and I was just in awe by the looks they came up with. I can’t wait to be able to post the spots. So soon. Okay, I’m babbling.
Oh gosh, the good news just keeps on coming! NBC has picked up a new sitcom based on the life of Chelsea Handler! Hahaha, hooray! What a wonderful world I woke up to this morning! The series will be based on her hilarious bestselling books about vodka and sex. Who doesn’t love television shows about wacky single gals?? The wackier the better! Zany, even! Quirky? Sarcastic? Bring ‘em on. Shove that shit in my television faster’n you can encourage judicial activism while pretending to fight judicial activism! C’mon, America!!! I want more!!! Give it to me!! What’re you waiting for?? Give it to me!! Just fucking give it to me already!!!!!! [Gawker]
